E-mail attachments, web pages, word processing documents and spreadsheets can all contain viruses that wreak havoc on your computer. If your machine has a virus and you connect to a network, you risk infecting your server and all computers on that network. What can you do to protect yourself? You can start by making sure that you have an up-to-date copy of an anti-virus program installed on your computer. If you have a network, you should make sure that every computer on that network has its own licensed copy of the anti-virus software. But that's not enough. New computer viruses surface daily, so keep your anti-virus programs up-to-date with the latest virus definition files. The manufacturer of your anti-virus software has instructions on keeping your software current.
